It’s Blackout time! I’ve been so excited for this week’s episode of Only Murders in the Building! I said it last week, but I think this show has the ability to do a blackout-related episode really well. I also completely forgot about the whole thing with Lucy at the end!
*There will be spoilers for season 2, episode 8, “Hello, Darkness” in this post.
Initial Thoughts & Reactions
I will say, Megan’s 4th floor apartment with no elevator is looking pretty good when compared to these Arconia apartments. 13th floor with a broken elevator? Yeah, nope. Not for me. I am Oliver Putnam climbing stairs.
What am I climbing towards, anyway?
Oliver Putnam (Martin Short)
Apparently this is the episode where I really identify with Oliver. When Oliver and Charles began comparing knees I saw my future. No chrystal ball needed. Sure, I haven’t had a replacement yet, but… still.
Who knew Martin Short could sing like that? I loved the singing moment. Definitely unexpected and random, but what isn’t with this show?

Why is Charles getting mad at Lucy? In the episode where we meet Lucy, she tells Charles that she had been there that night! That moment was infuriating to watch. If you go back to my review of the episode where Lucy is introduced, I even mention how that little detail is said, but Charles responds by saying that he was glad she wasn’t in the city the night Bunny died. I don’t get it!
Ok, again, I say it- you would freaking feel that amount of glitter on you! And as a detective, you’d think he would notice that. But also, it’s been at least a day since the glitter bomb. Does he not shower??? So many important questions here.
There’s a thin line between civilization and chaos, and that line is electricity.
Charles Haden Savage (Steve Martin)
My OMITB Theories
While the killer does look like a guy, he’s also walking similar to Uma when Lucy is in the passageways.
I feel like we’re being pushed towards thinking that Detective Kreps is the killer. But, he also could have the phone and be covered in glitter because he was following the traps that our trio were setting. I’m not sure how much I even believe that, but I’m not so sure about anything at this point.
When chasing Lucy in the passageways, the killer does look like a guy (from how he’s standing and his general body shape), but I also thought that when he hesitated and couldn’t decide which way to run, his arms and wrist looked like Uma’s. Thoughts?
Do you think that Marv is anything more than a mold inspector who was trying to protect Lucy? I believe it. But I also don’t. I have so many questions, and it does not seem like 2 episodes is enough time to answer them all! If you haven’t read this review, do it – it brings up some thoughts on the narrator that I didn’t notice or even pay attention to.
