Harloe Rae’s latest book, Lost In Him, is a small town, forced proximity, grump/sunshine, opposites attract kind of book that finally gives me the answers I’ve been waiting for since meeting Penny last December in Screwed Up. And, apparently it’s the first grumpy/sunshine book I’ve read? That seems odd to me, but I can’t think of others I’ve read. Let’s just say, I’ve got a new trope to explore.
Initial Thoughts
If you read Screwed Up from the Bayside Heroes series, you may remember Penny, Larson’s patient with the arranged marriage. In Lost In Him, Penny is leaving Florida and spending the summer in the Minnesota wilderness. She’s renting a cabin from the reclusive Nash, and they couldn’t be more different. As a reader, you know he’s got a good backstory. You just have to wait to find it.
Typically, books with a slow burn aren’t my favorite, even though I love it when it comes to fan fiction. But, I absolutely loved it with this book. I felt as if I knew who Penny and Nash are as individuals, instead of learning about them as their own relationship progressed. The early pieces of the book have a perfect balance of character building as well as tension building.

My Final Verdict on Lost In Him
Lost In Him is what I would consider to be the definition of grumpy/sunshine. Nash isolates himself from the world, and has no intentions of changing. But when Penny rents one of his cabins, he suddenly finds himself feeling the urge to talk… and more. 😉
Penny and Nash are both extremely stubborn. Penny is determined to break down Nash’s walls, but despite his dog’s love for Penny, he resists her. Even though they are both very different people, their relationship never feels forced. I never asked myself ‘why him.’ Something about them just works. And the twists at the end make it even better. Their story is just as intense as I’d hoped it would be.
Will you be reading Harloe Rae’s latest book, Lost In Him? If you haven’t read any of her books, I highly recommend them! They are the perfect blend of sweet romance and spice.
