Are you a parent in charge of moving the elf on the shelf this holiday season? If you’re wondering how you’re going to keep coming up with places for your elf, I can help! For today’s Blogmas post, I’m sharing ideas to help you find new spots for your elf.

Flying Elf
Your elf can leave the shelf and learn to fly! Using some string, hang your elf from a ceiling fan or light fixture. You can even create a cape or parachute for them with a rag, tissue, or paper towel.
Inspecting the Toys
Where do you keep toys in your house? Your elf visits Santa each night, so a spot in the toy box or bin is a great place! He can be ‘inspecting’ the toys for Santa so that Santa knows which toys to bring to your kids.
Guarding the Cookies
Here’s a new way to keep the kids out of the cookie jar- have your elf sit on top of or next to your stash in the pantry! This also works in cabinets or drawers with your pots/pans, plates, and silverware
Cleaning Duty
Did you ask your kid to vacuum or do other chores? Put the elf on the vacuum and let him take a joy ride around the house! Not only will his being there ensure your kid vacuumed but it’ll give you and your kids a laugh.
Doing the Laundry
If Mom’s too tired to do the laundry, stick your elf in the washer or dryer and maybe he’ll do a load or two for you. You can also make use of baskets of unfolded sheets or towels. You could also use this ‘story’ for the dishwasher, but that one may be a little more messy.

Hanging With The Ladies
If your elf is a boy, grab some barbie dolls or similar dolls, and set up a hangout between them and your elf. This would be great to do on a that chair in the living room that no one sits on.
Spa Day
If your elf has had a rough trip back from the North Pole, set up a little spa day for him in the bathroom. Roll up some washcloths and stack them together, and pull out some of your fancy body scrubs and face masks to complete the scene!
Up High
If your home has a fireplace, you can place your elf on the mantel with a variety of objects. Books, candles, and framed photos all offer possibilities. And, if you change up the objects on the mantel, you can use your mantel multiple times. Or, give the elf a birds-eye view and stick then inside the wreath above your fireplace. If you have art or photos on your walls, you elf can sit on top of the frame- then he’ll have a great view!
Plant-Life
If you’re a plant lover, your elf has tons of posts in or next to your potted plants. If you have several plants, that’s several days worth of elf shenanigans taken care of. Or, set up a little picnic for him underneath your Christmas tree.
Monkeying Around
Once your Christmas Tree is set up, hook your elf onto an ornament hook and let him hang off a branch. Or, he can play hide and seek within the branches- bonus points if you dress them in camouflage clothing.
Is this your first year taking on this challenge? Or are you a seasoned pro? I hope this post gave you a few ideas that can help you find new places for your elf on the shelf this December!
